FIC: (Don't) Work It, Baby

Title: (Don't) Work It, Baby
Fandom: SPN RPF
Characters / Pairings: Jensen/Danneel, Jared, mention of Jared/Gen
Words / Rating: 640 words / PG
Warnings / Contents: happy D/s fluff, possessiveness, alpha/beta/omega dynamics, otherwise non-AU
Summary: Danneel catches Jensen in the middle of questionable set shenanigans and reminds him who he belongs to.

A/N: You know how with a/b/o I'm all about "yay worldbuilding!" and "yay social equality!" and "down with biological essentialism!"? Uh, not so much, this fic. I wrote this for spnkink_meme, but it would not exist without inspiration from this clip from the S7 gag reel (involves clothed booty-shaking). And, yay, I believe it also fills the "verbal humiliation" square on my [community profile] kink_bingo card which I declined to mention getting because I was afraid I'd default. But now I have completed a square and therefore not defaulted! \o/

Edit: sorry for the weird disconnected sentences a minute ago. Fixed now!

It’d been a long freaking day, okay? Jared didn’t even want to think about what take they were on, and even the lunch truck people were having issues. There’d been issues with Jared’s lunch. So Jensen bent over the Impala’s engine swinging his ass for Jared’s supposed benefit, well, that was pretty much the highlight.

“Honey?”

Jensen froze. Jared froze, because he wasn’t bent over the Impala’s engine and he still hadn’t seen Danneel sneak up behind them. She was like a ninja. An alpha ninja, and who the hell thought that was a good idea?

Danneel crowded right into Jared’s space like she owned the particular piece of concrete he was loitering on, and Jared stepped back to let her have it, because he was big and Texan, but he wasn’t stupid. She got up behind Jensen, left hand landing on his shoulder and her right starting to slide up the inside of his thigh. “Were you giving the boys a show, honey?”

That was about the time Jared looked around and realized just how much audience Jensen had, how many hoots and cat calls Jared had been tuning out because the whole thing was just that damned funny. It wasn’t just the camera man, though he was looking a little worked up, there, pardner. They didn’t have a ton of alphas on the crew, but Jared was pretty sure every last one of them was lined up for the view.

Oh, crap.

“Long day,” Jensen mumbled. He still hadn’t moved.

Danneel squeezed his shoulder sympathetically. “I know, but sweetie, it’s not nice, taunting the boys with what they can’t have. Because this ass?” Her hand finished its low climb up his thigh and took a firm grip of his haunch for Jared and all the world to see. Jensen shuddered, and Jared shuddered with him. Danneel pitched her voice louder, and soft-spoken or no, it could carry when she wanted it to. “This ass is mine.”

Jensen nodded like a bobblehead, and Danneel leaned over and kissed him.

She straightened. “Brought you dinner,” she said cheerfully, ninjaing three bags of takeout from her purse and thrusting them into Jared’s hands. He knew from experience that two of the bags were for him. His appetite was just that famous. “Heard you guys were having trouble with catering.”

“You’re a miracle,” Jared said.

“I know.” She swatted Jensen on the ass. “You let Jared keep an eye on you today, okay, baby?”

“Okay.”

She turned to Jared. “You’ll keep an eye on him, right, Jared?” The you overgrown beta moron part was implied.

“Uh, yep,” Jared hastened. “Sure will.” This was the price of being BFFs with an omega: if anything ever happened to Jensen on Jared’s watch, Jared would be roadkill smeared across three completely different highways. He’d be food for fish so deep down they didn’t even have eyes. He’d be dead, basically. He’d be very, very dead.

“Good.” Danneel glanced behind them and waved sweetly at what crew was still looking their way, though most of them loved life and had found themselves a way to look busy. Then she sauntered back off the set as though walking around unsneakily in plain view was her standard mode of travel.

Jensen still hadn’t moved.

“You okay there?” Jared asked.

Jensen swung his head around wearing a soppier grin than ever ought to have appeared on a man’s face. Under his makeup, he looked a little flushed. “God, I love that woman,” he said. Then he straightened, grabbed one of the paper bags out of Jared’s hands, and yelled, “So are we putting this scene in the can or what? A guy’s gotta eat!”

Jared was going to have to man up and ask Gen how she’d feel about roleplaying a little A/o. He really, really was.

I *thought* that might be you. My over-sibilant agreement and capslocking still stands. It is most excellent.

'Twas indeed! (Did you guess because I'm recognizable, or because I'm predictable? It occurs to me now that the reason Jared's voice came so easily is because it's pretty much exactly the voice I used for him in Thermodynamics...) And I rather suspected that capslocking commenter might be you. :)

I sorta-guessed because I thought "ooh, unusual a/b/o, I bet snickfic will like this", and then made a suspicious-pleased squinty sort of face at the screen and thought ACTUALLY, I WONDER...

I am terrible at guessing from style, though. I've never been able to peg writers in anonfest guessing polls unless they have some very distinctive habits.

Yes, when it comes to a/b/o with women, I'm presently very much in the mode of "If you want it, you have to write it." (But! But I have big announcement for later today relevant to this conversation!)

(Also, in the interests of full disclosure, I'm also the person who originally posted the prompt...)

And yes, I'm terrible at guessing authors from style, too. Subject matter is a much better indicator.

Intrigue!

I was pleased by the prompt existing at all, so this is one of those things where filling your own just seems awesome to me, hah. I prompted a Lucifer/Uriel prompt a couple of months back and started trying to write something for it, even, because I figured that pairing would never happen, but the wordy stuff does not come easily to me (also in the interests of full disclosure, the slightly awkward comment-fic thing in the same thread that inspired your fill was mine).

Might go for rarepairs next RBB, though.

Aw! I didn't comment because I was on the mobile interface at the time (no anon commenting!), but I thought that was darling. OH BOYS.

Lucifer/angel pairings intrigue me, but I don't think I've ever read one. There's so much room for character exploration there.

Might go for rarepairs next RBB, though.

YES PLEASE. I found, looking through all the art/prompts yesterday, that I pretty much have to have a minor character or pairing to get invested in writing. None of the Sam-and-Dean prompts spoke to me at all. Now, Sam-and-Dean-Bela, say, or Rufus, or some other minor character - those I can get excited about.

I would be all over some Sam-Dean-Bela in some way. I love Lauren Cohen's face, so drawing her has got to be on the to-do list, and Bela is just flat-out fantastic. Steven Williams also has a great face. I love that little hint of dapper for Rufus with that earring, too.

I want a pre-fall Lucifer/Uriel, you know? Something that's kind of... nice, almost, but with ominous overtones. Uriel before he was all bitter and human-loathing. Lucifer before he fell, when he was the brightest of them all. And, uh, the angst of the fall itself, which could well have set Uriel against humans. Gosh, I HAVE URIEL FEELINGS, possibly more than I ever expect before I start trying to explain myself. Maybe I could draw it using their current vessels.

Or, hey, the AU in which Anna doesn't kill Uriel, we meet the rebel angels, and Lucifer's risen and laying waste working with angels and not the demons he found so contemptible.

Oh my gosh I love this! I have recently fallen completely in love with Jensen (and Danneel by default because they are adorable together), so this just completely tickles me. It's sexy + adorable, and I like how it's from Jared's POV.

I love these lines:

Jared would be roadkill smeared across three completely different highways. He’d be food for fish so deep down they didn’t even have eyes

Jared was going to have to man up and ask Gen how she’d feel about roleplaying a little A/o.

AWWW. YAY.

I have recently fallen completely in love with Jensen

Only recently? What is wrong with you, woman? He is particularly adorable in this most recent gag reel.

It's sexy + adorable, and I like how it's from Jared's POV.

Yay for sexy and adorable (especially as this is a kind of sexy that's pretty unfamiliar writing ground for me). I'm not sure why Jared's POV seemed such a completely obvious choice, but I never even considered another one. (Possibly because I wrote a 23k big bang in pretty much the same voice?)

I am so glad you liked. <3 <3

Only recently? What is wrong with you, woman?

*g* Well, I've always been a Dean!girl, and I've always liked/admired Jensen, but my Dean-love grew by leaps and bounds in S3-S5, which made Jensen so much more physically attractive to me than I found him in S1/S2. I also started paying more attention to the actors in general during the last few seasons because the characters were so angsty and J2 are so goofy/adorable/light-hearted in comparison, and I needed that. So now I occasionally waste ridiculous amounts of time on Tumblr scrolling through Jensen's tag because his face makes me swoon (I feel like I'm twelve again, when I was madly in love with Orlando Bloom and Tom Felton). And then I went to fangirl heaven a few days ago because you've seen his new song right? HE CAN SING. HE CAN SING WELL!! Aaldfkjaldjflakdjfladjflkadjflakdjflkdjf!

Thanks for the gag reel link! I shall probably wait to watch it until I see S7, but I look forward to it.

especially as this is a kind of sexy that's pretty unfamiliar writing ground for me

I'll admit to having done a double take when I saw you were writing kink. Makes it even more excellent. :)

You love Dean more in S3-S5? Bless you! So many people get tired of his angst in S4 and S5, and moreso from there on out. I am so pleased that you're still a fan. :)

I kid you not, it's been years since I've enjoyed just looking at a guy as much as I do both Jensen and Jared. Do you know the last time I had a celebrity crush? It was Keanu Reeves, and it was right after the Matrix came out. THE MATRIX. But now, while watching SPN with the roommate, it is necessary that at least once an episode I lean over and say re:Jensen/Dean, "He is very pretty."

I have not heard the song yet! It came out while I was on dial-up and I'd forgotten to go back and watch it. I'll go do that. I may be back to squee at you later. :D

I'd forgotten you hadn't seen S7 yet. When you do, get back to me and I'll link you to another fabulous, uh, outtake that doesn't seem to have made it into the DVDs. OH WAIT. No, it's from the Spike/Cordelia episode! Which means you can watch it now! (Now that I think about it, it's possible I linked to you to it already. Oh, well.)

I'll admit to having done a double take when I saw you were writing kink.

Heh, me, too. Put it this way, I don't foresee it becoming a significant feature of my writing career. I signed up for kink_bingo at Verity's insistence (she bribed me with promises of a/b/o mpreg), but I wasn't sure I'd be able to even finish a square, much less a bingo. And then I woke up Thursday morning with a kinkmeme prompt on one hand and a conversation from the anon meme on the other, and I said, "Hey..."

(This is my objectifying-Dean icon.)

So many people get tired of his angst in S4 and S5, and moreso from there on it. I am so pleased that you're still a fan. :)

I just lovedlovedloved the brothers' dynamic (Dean's resignation/death wish + Sam's anger/confusion/relentless and futile attempt to save him) so much in S3 that I fell even harder for them as individuals, too (I think S3 might be my favorite dynamic, actually). And perhaps this is shallow of me, but Dean's tragic story in S4 (or more accurately, the reveal of his tragedy) made him much more attractive to me (add that with my love of S7!Spike, and I think I have a thing for emotionally tortured men); also, even if it can get tedious to watch, his S4 angst is 100% justified; the guy spent forty years in Hell for goodness sake; I think he's earned the right to brood. His attitude in S5 toward Sam annoyed me, but it was believable, so I didn't get turned off him.

and Jared.

He doesn't do it for me the way Jensen does, but he's so pleasant to look at, too. My issue is his hair in some seasons, because that in-between length is a huge turn-off for me on guys. Do you prefer his hair one way or another, or is it all the same to you?

I kid you not, it's been years since I've enjoyed just looking at a guy as much as I do both Jensen and Jared.

Me, too. I actually printed some Jensen pictures recently to put on my wall, and i haven't done that in years; he is just so pretty to me. This basically describes me right now.

I may be back to squee at you later. :D

:D Definitely let me know what you think. It is so squee-worthy. I have listened to it an obscene number of times this past week. I want a whole album now. I want Dean to sing; that must happen before the series ends.

(Now that I think about it, it's possible I linked to you to it already. Oh, well.)

I think you did, but I did not remember all of it, so thanks! My favorite bit is when Dean tries to do the stretch at the end.

I wasn't sure I'd be able to even finish a square, much less a bingo.

I hear yah. I wanted to sign up when everyone was talking about it, but I have zero confidence in my ability to write kink.

Fortunately for you, Dean is an endless font of tortured mandom.

Do you prefer his hair one way or another, or is it all the same to you?

I definitely find Jared attractive in spite of his hair, not because of it. I like it best around S2-3, and it's been all downhill from there. But I love him for the faces he makes - the sweet puppy-dog ones, yeah, but also all his many and myriad WTF faces. He just has a very mobile face, and I love watching him do things with it. And I find, hmm, the way he carries himself very attractive. It's not exactly that he's big and muscular - big and muscular alone doesn't usually do it for me - but something about his proportions, how long everything is, and how that affects how he moves. I like his shoulders. And, perhaps weirdly, I like that as Sam he's always in loose clothing, which means he's got this massive build but doesn't give the impression of showing it off. (I find skin-tight t-shirts weird and embarrassing, whether the guy has the build for it or not.)

...wow, that is a lot more analysis of this sort of thing than I usually do. :D

I love your tumblr graphic. Love. (I mean, I would not want to marry Dean Winchester; that man has no idea how to conduct a long-term relationship, and neither do I. It would just be badness all around. But I understand the sentiment. And I totally bought a pretty picture of him from the dealer's table while I was at VanCon, which is hiding in a paper bag right now, because I'm weirdly shy to actually put it where I (or anyone else) can see it.)

The song is very pretty! I like the guitar and mandolin work. Despite the video footage, though, I have trouble connecting the singing with Jensen. He's got a lovely singing voice, but it's not what I'd have imagined based on his speaking voice. If I could manage to make that mental connection between the two, though? Which could still happen if I listen some more? I would be a puddle of goo. Like, permanently.

I think my favorite bit of that clip is the moment when Jensen can't quite manage to keep a straight face. Aw. :)

I love all your thoughts about Jared, especially his mobile face and his clothing. I hadn't thought about it that way before, but you're right, his clothes don't show off that physique (I keep thinking about the beginning of 6x03 when he's doing the sit-ups while the hooker leaves, and good grief was that chest startling).

I love your tumblr graphic. Love.

I have been finding such neat SPN graphics on Tumblr. TBH, more often than not I'm thinking, "Snick should see this!", but I know you don't go there. If you ever want links to other cool graphics, though... Frex, if you like Tangled~

And I totally bought a pretty picture of him from the dealer's table while I was at VanCon, which is hiding in a paper bag right now, because I'm weirdly shy to actually put it where I (or anyone else) can see it.)

Aw, I get that. Is it a Jensen-y picture or an in-character picture?

He's got a lovely singing voice, but it's not what I'd have imagined based on his speaking voice.

That was my first reaction, too. It took a few listens before it really started to sound like him. Dean's voice is always so guttural, and Jensen's singing is the complete opposite. Did he sound like Dean in person at the con?

Aww. I don't remember, do I have you followed? I only visit like once every two months, but I would not mind new sources of fun SPN-related graphics on the rare occasion I want some. :)

It is an in-character picture - that shot from the beginning of The End when he's looking out the window. It hangs out with the picture(s) of me and Julie McNiven. (I only paid for one, but they took two. At the time, the guy told me it was because of the glare on my glasses, but it turns out Julie also totally blinked in the first one. So it's good I got the second one. :D)

Did he sound like Dean in person at the con?

Yeah, more or less. I mean, he was still speaking in the same register, but he sounded a lot... looser? More relaxed? Not only was he not putting on that guttural quality, but he sounded much less tense all around. Which is good, because it is a great relief to remember that the actors are enjoying their lives a whole lot more than the characters they play.

Love this.

Though you made me watch a gag reel and even with the sound off I squirmed. Reading RPF=/=coping with actors being actors, even now.

(And reversebang... Oh god I can't write for that, can I? But so tempted.)

I totally understand the squirming. I'm quite comfortable with there being actors, and in fact I fangirl these in particular a fair bit, but the antics are often more than I can take. I watch the gag reel through my fingers. (OTOH, I really enjoy the legit screw-ups. Those are frequently adorable.)

(There's a 3k word minimum for the reverse bang. But if you feel you can hack that, then yes, you totally can! *lures*)

EDIT: Also, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the fic. :)

AWWWW. Actually, what's portrayed in this fic veers very near DNW territory for me, but I'm sort of pleased that that didn't come through. Regardless, I do think there's tons of room for sweet sappy adorableness in the a/b/o world. I mean, they're just people, after all. People with really weird biology. :)
