Fearless Defenders #1 - Bunn, Sliney
All-female team eventually to include Misty Knight, Valkyrie, new character Annabelle Riggs, and Dani Moonstar (who doesn't appear in this issue). I'm not sold yet. I don't have any sense of who these people are, Valkyrie's bullet boob costume is hella distracting, and the art in general does not please me, especially the action scenes – some broken spines happening there.

I reserve judgment.

Uncanny X-Force #1-4 - Remender, Opeña
Since I liked the Marvel NOW incarnation of this title, I thought I'd go back and read the previous one. I'm intrigued by the set-up, which I've had described to me as "The X-Men's wetworks team," but I'm mostly in this to get some Psylocke backstory and also find out why Fantomex is three people these days. No word on the latter yet; I'm enjoying the former so far.

Deadpool and Fantomex on the same team seems a bit like overkill. You'd think one sarcastic mercenary type would be enough. I did enjoy Deadpool entertaining himself up with noir voiceover, though.

I'm also interested in seeing how all this ties into Wolverine and the X-Men, which is offset from this one by only a handful of issues, I think. The first four-issue arc here deals with kid!Apocalypse, who will show up at the Jean Grey school soon, and also I believe I'll soon find out how Warren Worthington got his personality wiped.

However, all of that seems to be tangential to what this book is actually interested in, which is Plot. Lots of Plot. Also Villains. Plot and Villains which I do not care about in the slightest. In addition, this book feels like it's disproportionately concerned with Wolverine, who also provides the narration. So it is not clear that this is a title I'm going to be able to stick with long-term.

Based solely on first issues, the new incarnation already looks to be much more interesting. For one thing, it has three female team members (plus however you count the female Fantomex clone) to one here. For another, it seems to be spending a lot less time on yawn-worthy brawling sequences. The one advantage this one has is that the entire run is on MU.

I really like the first couple issues of Fearless Defenders. They're goofy and have a lot of entertaining banter, and ladies hanging out and punching stuff, and a flying horse. Stuff gets more serious/weirder around, like, issue 6? But I'm interested to see where it's going.

I don't actually mind the art very much, but I think I'm in the minority on that. Maybe I'm too used to seeing Catwoman and Nightwing do weird stretchy poses.

But yes, Val's metal bra is odd-looking. :P

Maybe I need to read more of it at once to get into it. I want to like it, but I'm just not feeling it yet. I do love ladies having adventures, so. :)
