SHIELD: 1.01

So, this was very shiny. Like, made of lots of money shiny. The location shooting, the SFX, the tons of sets, all the action sequences. Yikes.

I felt J. August Richards was ill-used, and his story a bit incoherent - that big speech at the end didn't seem to quite follow from the rest of his development, or I wanted clearly lines drawn from the one to the other, or something.

However, he was still my favorite thing and the only person in the shebang whose character I believed even a little bit. I didn't have an opinion of Clark Gregg before, but here he misses that cool-father/mentor mark by a mile and just comes across as insufferably smug. I didn't once feel the heart from him that I needed. Main white dude was even more insufferable, but at least the show made fun of him for it. Everyone else was just, again, too shiny. Skye pouts like Eliza Dushku, but lacks Faith's swagger. And Maria Hill's hair made me sad; I miss her comics boy cut.

Was a little amused/annoyed by how many comics shout-outs we kept doing, from the obvious "With great power..." to the somewhat less obvious "Are you reader for this journey into mystery?" Also I noticed how carefully we failed to actually name any of the Avengers, I assume for copyright reasons.

In conclusion: eh. Will probably keep watching for a while, but am thus far unenthused.

I thought Fitz and Simons were totally adorable, and I got excited when Ron Glass came onscreen, but other than that I was very meh about the show. It seemed very cheesy and I was not really into Coulson, yeah.

Yeah, 'meh' sums up my feelings nicely. :P

Ehhhhh, I got through half the episode and finally just gave up pretending to care, lol. Let me know if anything worthwhile happens next time!

I think you'll have to depend on someone else for that information; I don't think I can be bothered anymore until someone says it vastly improves.

But the good news is we get it on Friday. No waiting 8 months to comment!

YAY. That is very exciting for you!

It clashes with yoga tho. Torn.

(Someday I will get TiVo and solve this kind of dilemma. But not yet.)

Does it not get put on an England-available website, after? For whatever channel it airs on?

Often not, depending on the distribution deal they have. It'll be on a one-hour delay showing too on TV, tho, which should just work for me.

The best moment, for me, was that shot when we enter the plane and for a second I went "HOLY SHIT, THAT'S SERENITY". But otherwise, yeah; potentially intriguing plot, decent humour, but the regulars (whose names or faces I can't for the life of me remember) so far make the CGI stuff look lifelike by comparison.

It was just very disappointing. I think I'll ignore this one until/unless someone tells me it gets good.
