Anya final stand, S7

2019 in media

Your main fandom this year?
MCU, no question. Wrote a lot of fic, ran a number of events and communities for it.

Your favorite film watched this year?
I watched a bunch of movies this year and can't really pick just one, so here are my top four:
Knives Out
Ready or Not
The Perfection
A Dark Song

Honorable mention to Captain Marvel, which I think has a lot of flaws, and yet I saw it four times in the theater and enjoyed it hugely every time.

Your favorite book read this year?
Single favorite was probably The Bone Key by Sarah Monette, which was 100% the melancholy queer collection of spooky casefics I wanted. I LOVED it. There were a bunch of ties for second, including The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie and The Fisherman by John Langan.

Your favorite TV show of the year?
I only watched two, The Terror and Black Spot, and honestly I really enjoyed them both, to the point of reading fic and starting to write some, although only the Black Spot fic got finished. I'm calling it a tie.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Uhhhh so I fell face-first into Oasis RPF fandom about six weeks ago, specifically the Gallaghercest corner of it. Flaily blog posts forthcoming.

Your biggest fandom disappointment?
Endgame absolutely gutted me. I have never been even remotely that disappointed in a piece of media before, and this despite the fact that I DIDN'T EXPECT TO LIKE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. There were parts of it that I didn't hate, but they got completely lost in all the things I did, which retroactively made me dislike IW a lot more AND crushed my enthusiasm for any future developments in the MCU (except for Captain Marvel, assuming the next movie is in the past like the first one was). I'm starting to feel pretty certain that I'm not going to be able to engage with almost any new MCU canon going forward.

On a much smaller scale, Stranger Things S3 sucked pretty hard. I didn't even finish it.

Your fannish boyfriend of the year?
Heimdall and/or Loki.

Your TV girlfriend of the year?
AO3 says Carol Danvers and Valkyrie, which sounds about right.

The most missed of your old fandoms?
It feels like I miss SPN fandom - specifically the fic - more with every passing year.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Noooooo I have too many fannish interests NOW. That said I have a bunch of written SFF I want to read in the new year, and some of those might turn into Yuletide-type fandoms for me. I just started Gideon the Ninth!
