Marvel has announced a new solo Ms Marvel ongoing featuring a brand new Muslim teen character. I'm kind of stuck on solo ongoing for completely unknown character, but I will definitely be reading the heck out of it, especially as it has art by Adrian Alphona (the original Runaways guy, has also done some gorgeous stuff for Uncanny X-Force recently) and is written by a Muslim woman. And while I am skeptical of one of the promo art pieces floating around, the other is pretty fabulous.

Incidentally, this puts us at five female solo ongoings by mid-spring, as well as two solos featuring people of color (the other being Rhodey in the new Iron Patriot). Not that that latter is a thrilling statistic, but it is 100% better than it was yesterday.

Ahh that sounds so great! I'm actually part Indian, so a Southeast Asian Ms. Marvel is really exciting for me.

Oh, yay! I am especially excited for you, then. I hope it is awesome.

Nice cover art! And ooh, one of the things I'm liking about Runaways so far is the art. Also, randomly, I have a ring exactly like that one with the stars on it. It used to be matte black, but that all rubbed off.

Yeah, I quite like this cover (although it's by a different person than the interior artist, so as advertising it's suspect).

I am so, so, so, so excited about this! Between this and the new She-Hulk, I'm super looking forward to the Marvel Now 2.0 launch.

I am loving all these lady-centric announcements. I can't wait to start getting my hands on some of these comics.

I saw that announcement and I'm officially intrigued! Damn it, you're dragging me back into comics! It started with Saga...

HA HA. Good job me! I didn't realize/had forgotten that you were into comics before. But anytime I can lure people into my current obsession, I count as a win. :D

I was a big (if selective!) comic book nerd when I was a teenager. When I went off to college I realized I couldn't afford to buy them, and dropped out. After that I really only read Sandman & Fables and mostly as compilations. Then came the Bryan Lynch Spike books; I fell in love with Spike Asylum, which lead into the other Spike comics, and then After the Fall. And then the Buffy comics... Season 8 was ridiculous; I gave up mid way though I read them all (pirated. I'm not proud) after the fact. I genuinely like the Angle and Faith series though, and mostly enjoyed Buffy Season 9.

Then Saga; you hooked me against my better judgement! I ordered the first compilation from Amazon, and read it that first day. And ordered the second. Then had to physically walk to the local comic book store and buy the new editions... The comic book store guy is very friendly, but odd.

I blame you!

And er, when is the next issue coming out again??

I am so proud. You don't even know. I feel like comics in general are not an easy thing to get into if you've not read them before; just being able to read the medium takes a certain amount of acclimation, I think, and then of course superhero comics are such a daunting mess of continuity. Plus there's the money factor, which is a hurdle to all of us used to getting most/all our canon for free.

Obviously you're at an advantage, since you've read them before. But still, I am so pleased you're reading Saga and liking it. And if I can get you reading some from Marvel, then... :D
